We’ve been meaning to take a family trip to the movie theater. My youngest has just reached the point where we were wondering if she’d make it through a whole movie. We weighed our options: Monsters vs. Aliens or Hannah Montana. Neither was that appealing to my husband and me, so we let our daughters choose. Of course Hannah was the clear winner.

I wasn’t expecting much, so maybe that is why I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Sure, you had to look past the cheesy, predictable dialogue, and also try not to think about how silly it was that by slapping on a long, blond wig everyone could be fooled, but all that aside the message was worthwhile. And I don’t just mean for kids.

The chorus of the movie’s theme song was stuck in my head all weekend. At this point, the lyrics probably mean more to me than they do to my daughters:

There’s always gonna be another mountain.
I’m always gonna wanna make it move.
Always gonna be an up-hill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose.
Ain’t about how fast I get there.
Ain’t about what’s waitin’ on the other side.
It’s the climb.

Lemonade Stand
We had a yard sale on Saturday to get rid of some stuff. To keep the kiddos entertained we set up a lemonade stand, and they had a blast. Turned out to be a fun way to teach my oldest about money. She now knows that “paper money” is better than pennies — a very important lesson indeed.

As Good as Homemade

Have you checked out Etsy yet? If not, then add this to the list of websites that will somehow suck away hours from your day. It’s like an eBay for all things handmade. So us moms who can’t sew a stitch can get adorable handmade things and pretend we made them ourselves (there’s no unsightly brand labels to rat us out).

We found lots of pretty dresses, boy stuff, games, and other fun things. There are even clever handmade items for home. The price tags are also impressive — nowhere near what I would have expected to pay for something handmade.

A word of warning, be sure the kids are well occupied before you head over — Etsy is very addicting!
